Emilio Braga Notebooks

A notebook that has been made the same way since 1918.

We first discovered these notebooks in Portugal over a decade ago, and when we started Secret Canyon, they were at the top of our list of products to import.

When Emílio da Silva Braga opened his stationery shop, it was considered one of the finest of its time. More than a century later, the family is still at it -- still sewing, still gluing, still hand-sponging the covers without a single piece of industrial equipment. Every notebook is sewn and glued using centuries-old techniques. 

The cover pattern you're looking at? It's called "cloud," and the edges of the paper are printed with a matching pattern -- still applied by hand with a sponge, exactly as they've always been done.

This is the galocha -- the true Portuguese notebook.
